聞こえるか、みんなのディンク？ Do You Hear the People Dink?

最近、東京周辺でピックルボール施設が次々と増えてきているのは本当に素晴らしいことだと思います。

先週は市川市にある「Picklebang Theory」という施設でプレーする機会がありました。屋内コートが3面あり、1面を6人で3時間回しながらプレーしましたが、本当に楽しかったです。私たちのエリアからは少し遠いですが、行く価値は十分にあります。

既存の銀座、東京タワー、有明の施設に加え、池袋でも新しいコートの計画が進んでいますし、豊洲にも夏の終わり頃までに複数のコートがオープン予定です。さらに、週末に一緒にプレーした方の一人が、東京スカイツリー近辺で新しいコートの立ち上げに関わっているそうで、本当にスポーツが動き始めていると感じます。

一方で残念なのは、私たちの地域ではまだ大きな動きが少ないことです。もちろん、独自に施設を作るには非常に大きな資金が必要ですし、自治体の対応もまだまだゆっくりです。KPIが屋外コートを増やしてくれているのは非常に心強いですが、地域での認知やサポートはまだもっと必要だと思っています。

鎌倉や近隣地域でも、もっと応援や盛り上がりが必要です。まずはみんなで声を上げて、実際に需要があることを示していくことが大切だと思います。練習に来る、友人を連れてくる、周囲に広める――そうした積み重ねによって、自治体も少しずつ動き始める可能性が高くなると思います。

そして、若い世代にもぜひ広がってほしいです。私たちは4月から第一中学校と第一小学校でもプレーを始めました。学校や地域を通じて活動を知ってもらい、そこからさらに広がっていけば嬉しいです。若い世代にもピックルボールが自然に広がっていくことを期待しています。

It’s great to see that so many new pickleball facilities are coming up around Tokyo lately.

Last week I had the chance to play in Ichikawa City at a place called Picklebang Theory. They have three indoor courts there. We played for three hours, with six players rotating on one court, and it was a lot of fun. It’s a bit far from where we are based, but definitely worth checking out.

Aside from the existing locations in Ginza, Tokyo Tower, and Ariake, there are also a few new courts planned for Ikebukuro, plus several more coming to Toyosu by the end of the summer. One of the guys I played with over the weekend is actually involved in opening new courts near the Tokyo Skytree area as well, which is very exciting. The sport is really starting to move.

What is unfortunately still challenging is that things in our area are not progressing very quickly. Of course, building directly funded facilities is extremely expensive, and municipalities are still quite slow in adapting to the sport. KPI is adding a few outdoor courts, which is encouraging, but overall we still need much more local support and visibility.

I think we really need support in Kamakura and the neighboring cities. We need to make noise, keep building awareness, and show that there is genuine demand for the sport. The more people come to practice, bring friends, and spread the word, the more likely it is that municipalities will eventually step in and support development.

It would also be great to get younger generations involved. Since April, we have started playing at Daiichi Junior High School and Daiichi Elementary School, and hopefully more people will hear about these activities through the schools and local community. It would be fantastic to see pickleball continue spreading among younger players as well.
