The Secret to Better Resets: Stop Moving

If your resets aren't consistent, the problem often isn't your paddle—it's your feet. Many intermediate players are still moving when their opponent makes contact with the ball. That delays their reaction, makes it harder to absorb pace, and often results in resets that sit up and are easily attacked. The key is to be completely balanced and motionless at the moment your opponent strikes the ball. When you're already set, you'll see the ball sooner, react more quickly, and produce softer, more controlled resets.
A simple drill helps develop this habit. One player stands in the transition zone while a partner feeds balls from across the net. Just before striking the ball, the feeder calls out, "Ready!" The player resetting must immediately stop moving, get balanced, and then play the reset. It may feel unnatural at first, but with repetition you'll develop the habit of being set before your opponent makes contact, and your resets will become noticeably more consistent in match play.
