As Our Tournament Calendar Grows

As Ocean organizes more tournaments alongside our regular sessions, we are also receiving enquiries about children taking part. This makes it a good time to clarify our approach and establish clear entry conditions for future events.

We want children to have opportunities to test their skills and play against different opponents. In tournaments involving adults, however, a child’s playing ability is only one consideration.

At amateur level, powerful shots do not always come with reliable control. A ball at chest height for an adult may be at face height for a smaller child. Adult opponents may also hesitate to play their usual game out of concern for the child. Organizers need to consider both sides of that shared court.

For future tournaments, we intend to review age, experience, physical differences, and event format, together with appropriate protective equipment and parental acknowledgement of risks and consent. Practical safety measures must accompany that process.

We would like to hear members’ views and discuss the policy through our board, so that entry conditions can be clearly communicated when registration opens. As our tournament calendar grows, participants should know what to expect before signing up.
