ホーチミン市：ピックルボール、エッグコーヒー、そしてとても忙しい土曜日 Ho Chi Minh City: Pickleball, Egg Coffee and a Very Busy Saturday

昨日の夕方は、30年ほど日本で仕事をしているという、地元の起業家の方に招いていただきました。なんと、ご自宅とオフィスの隣にピックルボールコートがあり、毎日のように友人たちとプレーしているそうです。私も友人と一緒に参加させてもらい、とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。帰り道には、地元のブルワリーに立ち寄り、ホテルの近くでタコスを食べました。

今朝は、ホテルから歩いて5分ほどのところにある小さなピックルボール施設を見てきました。コートは3面あります。誰かがレッスンを受けていましたが、土曜日の朝だったこともあって、それ以外は空いていました。かなり中心部にあり、住宅地ではないので、それも関係しているのかもしれません。小さいながらも、とてもいい施設でした。また行ってみてもいいかなと思っています。

その後、街の中心部からタクシーで20分ほど移動して、2回目のレッスンを受けました。今度の施設は、とにかく巨大。ものすごく大きな施設でした。少なくとも12面はコートがあったと思いますし、近くではさらに数面を建設中でした。そして、とにかく混んでいました。今日の先生は昨日の先生よりずっと若く、英語はあまり話しませんでした。でも、若く見えるのに、とてもタフな人でした。本当にタフ（笑）。それでも、今日もとても面白く、楽しいレッスンでした。

ところで、ホーチミン市に来てすぐに気づくことの一つが、カフェの多さです。本当に、あちこちにあります。

ホテルの近くに戻ってきたあと、あまり重いランチを食べる気分ではなかったので、有名なエッグヨークコーヒーを試してみることにしました。もともとはハノイ発祥だと思います。アイスのエッグヨークコーヒーと、パン・オ・ショコラを一緒に注文しました。コーヒーは本当に素晴らしかったです。とても濃厚で、密度があって、甘いのに、同時に爽やか。そしてパン・オ・ショコラ。まず、とにかく大きかったです。とてもサクサク、パリパリしていて、チョコレートはほんのり苦みがありました。完全に至福の時間でした。

さて、これからちょっと昼寝をして、夕方にまた出かけまーす！

 Yesterday evening, I was hosted by a local entrepreneur who has worked in Japan for about 30 years. He actually has a pickleball court next to his house and office, where he plays every day with his friends. I was lucky enough to join them, along with my friend, and we had a lot of fun.

On the way back, I stopped by a local brewery and had some tacos for dinner nearby the hotel.

This morning, I checked out a small pickleball facility about five minutes' walk from the hotel. They have three courts. Somebody was having lessons there, but on a Saturday morning it was otherwise empty. I guess the location, in a very central area rather than a residential one, may have something to do with that. It was a small but very nice facility, and I may want to check it out again.

Then I moved about 20 minutes by taxi from the city center for my second lesson. This time, the facility was huge—really huge. I think they had at least 12 courts, and nearby they are building a few more. It was completely packed. Today's teacher was much younger than yesterday's. He didn't speak much English, but despite his young appearance, he was a very tough guy. Very tough (LOL). But it was another very interesting and fun lesson.

By the way, one thing you notice immediately in Ho Chi Minh City is the number of cafés. They seem to be everywhere, around every corner. After returning to the area near the hotel, I didn't feel like having a heavy lunch, so I decided to try the famous egg yolk coffee, which I think originally comes from Hanoi. I had an iced egg yolk coffee with a pain au chocolat on the side.The coffee was just amazing. Very rich, very dense, sweet and refreshing at the same time.And the pain au chocolat—first of all, it was huge. It was very crispy and crunchy, with mildly bitter chocolate. Complete bliss.

Now I think I'm going to take a quick nap and head out again this evening!
