進化するコミュニティと「Field of Dreams」への道 The Evolving Community and the Path to Our “Field of Dreams”

ここ数日、さまざまな方がプレーしている様子を写真で振り返りながら、あらためてコミュニティの広がりを実感しています。年齢も経験も関係なく、初めてラケットを握った人から、毎週のように参加してくださる方まで、同じ空間で自然に交流が生まれていく。ピックルボールの魅力はまさにここにあります。

さて、ここでいくつか最新の状況を共有したいと思います。

まず、公共体育館のエアコン設置についてです。市のほうでプロジェクトは進んでおり、近い将来、施工業者が選定される見込みとのことです。順調に進めば、来年の夏には今よりもずっと快適で健康的な環境で練習ができるはずです。これまで暑さを気にしながらのプレーが続いてきましたが、少しずつ環境が改善されていくことを心から期待しています。

そして、1月25日に予定している三クラブ合同のフレンドリーイベントについて。想像をはるかに超える数のお申し込みをいただき、本当にありがとうございます。残念ながら枠に限りがあるため、全員をお迎えすることが難しく、個別にご案内を差し上げる形になります。最初の枠に入れない方には、ウエイティングにまわっていただくことになりますが、同じ日の夕方5時から武道館で、もう一つ特別なイベントを企画しています。こちらも詳細は週末に発表しますので、ぜひ楽しみにお待ちください。

この数ヶ月で、鎌倉のピックルボールは確実に広がっています。平日の開催でも、少しずつ参加者が増え、初めての方が来てくださる機会も多くなりました。こうした積み重ねが、やがて専用施設の必要性を市に伝える力になります。コミュニティとして継続的に活動し、プレーできる場所がもっと必要であることを可視化していくことが、次のステップにつながると信じています。

「Pickleball Field of Dreams」──それを本当に形にするために、これからも皆さんと一緒に、少しずつ前に進んでいきたいと思います。

As I look back at the photos from the past couple of days, I am once again reminded of how much our community has grown. People of all ages, backgrounds, and levels come together naturally—those picking up a paddle for the first time, those who join every week, and everyone in between. This effortless connection is one of the true strengths of pickleball.

Here are a few updates I would like to share.

First, regarding the air-conditioning project for the public gyms. The city has confirmed that the project is moving forward, and that contractors are expected to be selected in the near future. If everything proceeds smoothly, we should be able to practice next summer in a much healthier and more comfortable environment. After months of dealing with heat and humidity, the prospect of improved conditions is something I truly look forward to.

Next, the three-club friendly event scheduled for January 25th. The number of responses has far exceeded expectations, and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the enthusiasm. Unfortunately, due to limited capacity, we will not be able to accommodate everyone this time. We will contact each person individually regarding participation, and those not in the initial group will be placed on a waiting list. That said, on the same day at 5 p.m., we are planning a second special event at the Budokan with a very special guest. I will share more details over the weekend.

Over the past few months, pickleball in Kamakura has been growing steadily. Even on weekdays, participation has increased, and we welcome new players on a regular basis. These small steps collectively help demonstrate that the city needs proper facilities to support this sport. By continuing to build momentum, we can make the case for a dedicated pickleball space that serves all clubs and all players.

Our “Pickleball Field of Dreams” is not just a slogan—It is something we can bring to life together, step by step.
