リカ・リオダンさんとの面談と国際ピックルボールの新たな展開 Meeting Rika Riordan and a new chapter in international Pickleball

昨日、日本のピックルボール発展を支えるもう一人のキーパーソンと出会うことができました。一般財団法人ピックルボール日本連盟の副理事長であるリオダン リカさんです。短い時間でしたが、彼女が国内だけでなく国際的なフィールドでも重要な役割を担っていることを強く感じました。

ちょうど世界では、グローバル・ピックルボール連盟（GPF）とユニファイド・ワールド・ピックルボール連盟（UWPF）が、単一の国際統括団体を設立することで正式に合意し、国際統合タスクフォースが発足しました。リカさんはその正式メンバーに選ばれ、日本は世界的な統一プロセスの中心に直接関わることになります。2032年ブリスベン五輪採用に向け、国際協議の重要な局面を迎える中で、日本の存在感は一段と高まるはずです。

このような大きな流れのなかで、来月開催される有明でのPJFチャンピオンシップスも、国際的な視点で見ても非常に意味のある大会になりそうです。私自身も取材を通じて、この大会がどのように日本のピックルボールを次のステージへ押し上げていくのかをお伝えしていきたいと思います。

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting another key figure in the development of pickleball in Japan: Rika Riordan, Vice Chairperson of the Pickleball Federation of Japan. Even in a short conversation, it was clear that she plays an important role not only domestically but also in shaping the sport’s international future.

This comes at a pivotal moment for global pickleball governance. The Global Pickleball Federation (GPF) and the Unified World Pickleball Federation (UWPF) have formally agreed to establish a single international governing body, launching the International Unification Taskforce. Rika has been appointed as an official member, placing Japan directly at the center of this global unification process as the sport moves closer to potential inclusion in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Against this backdrop, the upcoming PJF Championships at Ariake will carry even greater significance. Through my coverage, I hope to share how this tournament reflects both Japan’s rapid growth and its rising international presence in the sport.
