コートがつなぐもの What the Court Connects

昨日はフィリピンからのゲストをお迎えし、鎌倉でピックルボール、友情、笑顔、そしてお互いへのリスペクトを共有する素晴らしい時間となりました。国籍も、世代も、背景も違いますが、コートに立てば皆が同じ言葉を話しているように感じます。

このような不安定な時代だからこそ、スポーツは人と人を結びつける数少ない存在のひとつだと思います。そして私たちにとって、ピックルボールにはそれ以上の意味があります。

コートは、外の世界を映し出す小さな縮図です。すべての動きには結果があり、すべてのショットには反応があります。私たちは決して一人でプレーしているわけではなく、パートナー、相手、空間、リズム、意図と共に動いています。

だからこそ、ただプレーするだけではなく、「なぜその打ち方をするのか」「なぜポジショニングが重要なのか」「なぜ忍耐や状況判断が必要なのか」を理解することが大切だと考えています。

時には私たちがコート上で少しストレートに見えることもあるかもしれません。しかしそれは、日常のルーティンから一歩抜け出し、因果関係や動き、バランス、判断について意識的に考えてほしいという思いからです。

また、このゲームは大切なことを教えてくれます。プレッシャーのかかる場面では、一瞬で判断を下さなければならず、その判断がラリーの結果を大きく左右します。そうした瞬間の中で、冷静に状況を見て、適応し、反応していくこと。その積み重ねが、このスポーツをコートの外でも意味のあるものにしているのだと思います。

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome guests from the Philippines and share a wonderful evening of pickleball here in Kamakura. Different countries, different generations, different backgrounds — yet once we step onto the court, people naturally come together. That is one of the beautiful things about sports.

Especially in turbulent times, sports remain one of the few things capable of genuinely connecting people. And for us, pickleball is much more than just a sport.

Inside the court, there is the same kind of flow and interconnectedness that exists in the outside world. Our movements affect others, and their movements affect us in return. Partnership, positioning, rhythm, timing, awareness — everything is connected.

That is why we believe it is important not only to play, but also to understand why we choose a certain shot, why we move in a certain direction, and how our decisions shape the rally.

Sometimes we may seem a little direct on the court, but it comes from a genuine desire to encourage people to step outside their daily routines, think for themselves, make decisions, and move with intention.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the game is that, under pressure, we are forced to make decisions in a split second, and those decisions can dramatically change the outcome of the rally. How we think, adapt, and respond in those moments is part of what makes the game meaningful far beyond the court itself.
