ホーチミン、初日 First Day in Ho Chi Minh City

今朝6時、VietJetの6時間のフライトでホーチミンに到着しました。フライトはとてもスムーズで、入国審査ではファストトラックを利用できたので、かなり助かりました。

街に出てみると、想像していた通り、ヨーロッパとアジアの建築が混ざり合った、とても興味深い街です。カフェやレストランもたくさんあり、歩いているだけでもなかなか楽しめます。

ホテルに到着したものの、まだ部屋の準備ができていなかったので、1時間ほど街を散策することにしました。もちろん、最初にチェックしたのはピックルボールのコート。ホテルから10分ほどのところにコートがあり、朝早い時間にもかかわらず、すでに満員でした。

施設もとてもきれいで、ホーチミンではピックルボールがかなり盛んになっていることがうかがえます。その後は現地の市場にも立ち寄り、少し街の雰囲気を楽しみました。

今夜は、現在ベトナムを拠点にしている鎌倉のOcean Pickleballのクラブメンバーと夕食をする予定です。久しぶりに会えるので楽しみです。

そして明日は、地元のプロとのセッションと、夜にはオープンプレーの予定。ホーチミンのピックルボール事情を実際に体験できそうで、今から楽しみです。

ベトナム初上陸。まずは、とても面白いスタートになりました。

I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City at 6 a.m. this morning after a smooth six-hour flight with VietJet. The fast-track immigration service was very handy and made the arrival process quick and easy.

Once I got into the city, my first impression was how fascinating the mix of European and Asian architecture is. There are cafés and restaurants everywhere, and the city already feels like a very interesting place to explore.

My hotel room wasn't ready when I arrived, so I had about an hour to kill. Naturally, I decided to take a walk and check out the local pickleball scene.

I found a pickleball court about ten minutes from the hotel, and even early in the morning, the courts were already completely full. The facilities looked great, and it's already clear that pickleball is quite popular here in Ho Chi Minh City. I also had a look around a local market and got a first taste of the atmosphere of everyday life in the city.

This evening, I'm having dinner with one of our Ocean Pickleball club members from Kamakura, who is currently based in Vietnam. I'm looking forward to catching up.

Tomorrow, the pickleball adventure continues, with a session with a local pro followed by open play in the evening. I'm really looking forward to getting a better feel for the local pickleball scene.
