A Simple & Consistent Backhand Dink

One of the keys to a consistent backhand dink is the position of your feet.
Position yourself so that, if you extend an imaginary line connecting your left and right feet, that line points toward the corner of your opponent’s kitchen. This alignment makes it easier to guide the ball naturally in the direction you want without relying too much on your wrist or arm.
From there, keep the paddle face slightly open and gently swing your arm. There’s no need to hit the ball hard. Avoid excessive wrist movement or a big swing—think of simply carrying the ball softly over the net and into your opponent’s kitchen.
A good dink is less about “hitting” the ball and more about gently guiding it. Focus on your foot alignment, an open paddle face, and a relaxed, smooth swing.
